Houthi Shelling Kills and Injures Eight Civilians in Taiz
Eight civilians, primarily children, were killed or injured on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, when a shell fired by Houthi forces struck a residential home in the Al-Athawir village of Haifan district, located in the southern part of Taiz Governorate, Yemen.
Local sources reported that the projectile directly impacted the residence of Ali Abdulhaq Al-Athouri. The attack resulted in the deaths of three children—seven-year-old Miri Ali Abdulhaq, twelve-year-old Sama Ali Abdulhaq, and three-year-old Hayan Ali Abdulhaq—as well as 35-year-old Abeer Abduldaem.
The shelling also caused injuries to four other individuals, identified as 20-year-old Abdo Marwan Abdulhaq, 20-year-old Zaid Raghadan Ali, two-and-a-half-year-old Burhan Methaq Abdulhaq, and ten-year-old Alia Ali Abdulhaq.
This incident is part of a persistent pattern of Houthi artillery attacks targeting residential neighborhoods and private homes across various frontlines in Taiz. Such actions continue to exacerbate the humanitarian crisis, resulting in significant casualties among women and children while causing extensive destruction to civilian property.
International observers have repeatedly condemned these actions as flagrant violations of international humanitarian law, which mandates the protection of non-combatants during armed conflicts. The ongoing violence remains a primary driver of suffering for the local population in the region.
