Houthi Militia Targets Residential Areas in Taiz, Destroying Civilian Home
Houthi militia forces have launched a series of artillery attacks in Taiz Governorate, resulting in the destruction of a residential home belonging to a teacher, Fuad Al-Tabuki, amid an ongoing campaign of violence against civilian populations.
The shelling has severely impacted the Al-Aqroud area in Al-Masrakh district and the Kahlan region in Sabr district. Residents report continuous bombardment over several hours, raising urgent concerns regarding potential casualties and further extensive damage to civilian property and infrastructure.
This escalation follows a documented pattern of aggression against residential sectors in the province. A recent human rights report recorded 43 distinct violations committed by Houthi forces within a 24-hour period. These incidents resulted in the deaths of five civilians and left 17 others injured, including women and children. The attacks also caused significant damage to seven homes, 12 vehicles, Al-Safwa Hospital, and the Al-Saeed Mosque.
According to the report, the militia utilized a wide array of heavy weaponry, including mortars, artillery, howitzers, and Katyusha rockets. Additionally, the deployment of tanks and combat drones to target densely populated neighborhoods has exacerbated the danger to non-combatants. Among the recent casualties, a five-year-old girl was killed inside her home in the Haysban area of Al-Masrakh district.
The humanitarian situation in Taiz remains dire as the Houthi-imposed siege persists, severely restricting the movement of citizens and the delivery of essential supplies. The intensification of indiscriminate shelling continues to pose a critical threat to the lives of civilians, particularly vulnerable populations including women and children who remain trapped in the conflict zone.
